Tata Motors Limited is an Indian Automobile Manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and a subsidiary of Tata Group. Tata Motors works in several products include passenger cars, trucks, vans, coaches, buses and military vehicles. It ranks on 18th in motor vehicle manufacturing, 4th largest truck manufacturer, and 2nd largest bus Manufacturer Company. Tata cars in India already known for its economy car manufacturing in Indian markets.
Its auto manufacturing and assembly plants established in Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Sanand, Dharwad and Pune in India, as well as in Argentina, South Africa, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Its Research & Development center situated in Pune, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, and Dharwad, India, and in South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The bus manufacturing has a joint venture with Marcopolo S.A and construction equipment manufacturing joint venture with Hitachi, Telcon Construction Solutions.
Tata Groups were founded in 1945 as a manufacturer of locomotives, and its first commercial vehicle manufactured in 1954 in collaboration with Daimler-Benz AG, which was ended in 1969.
In 1991, Tata Motors has launched first passenger vehicle name Tata Sierra and in 1998 first Indian passenger car, Tata Indica. In 2004, Tata Motors acquired South Korean truck manufacturer Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company and the British premium car maker Jaguar Land Rover in 2008.
After Tata Indica, Tata Motors has launched 3 more vehicles, Tata Estate, TataMobile and a lightweight commercial vehicle, Tata Sumo and Tata Safari.
Tata Indica was the first fully Indian passenger car. This Tata Indica gets excellent fuel economy, powerful engine and an aggressive marketing strategy made it one of the best-selling cars in the history of the Indian Automobile Industry. After that, Tata Motors has launched another version of Indica V2 with a major improvement.
In 2004, Tata Motors has acquired Daewoo’s South Korea truck manufacturing unit, Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company.
Tata Motors continued its market area expansion through the introduction of new products such as Buses and Trucks.
In 2006, Tata Motors joint with Brazil-based Marcopolo and renamed Tata Marcopolo Bus.
Earlier, In 2008, Tata Motors acquired the British car maker Jaguar Land Rover, the manufacturer of the Jaguar, Land Rover and Daimler luxury car brands, from Ford Motor Company.
In 2009, Tata Motors acquired full ownership of Hispano Carrocera.
In 2012, Tata Motors announced to developing Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicles in collaboration with DRDO.
