Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) is a subsidiary of Honda of Japan. Honda Cars is formerly known as Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. It began operations in December 1995 as a joint venture between Honda Motor Company and Usha International of Siddharth Shriram Group. Honda Cars in India known for its luxury car manufacturing.
In 2012, the Honda purchased 3.16% stake in Usha International of Siddharth Shriram Group. Then Company changed its name to Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) and became a 100% subsidiary of Honda.
The production facilities are available at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh and at Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.
In 1997, HCIL started manufacturing unit at Greater Noida. Its initial capacity of the plant was 30,000 cars annually, which was increased to 50,000 cars on a two-shift basis. As per 2008 report, it was increased 100,000 units annually.
The Company has invested INR 7.8 billion in Bhiwadi for 2nd production plant with annual production capacity of 50,000 units. The Company operates under ISO 9001 for its quality management and ISO 14001 for environment management.
The Company has 152 dealerships across 98 cities in 20 states and 3 Union Territories of India.
The Company sold 55,884 units during the period April 09 – February 10 as against 45,052 units same period a year ago.
In 2006, the Company has won several awards such as Best Indian Company by Business Standard group, manufacturer of the year by NDTV Profit-Car India and CNBC-TV 18 Autocar India, No.1 Mid-Size Car, No.1 Entry Luxury Car and No.1 Premium SUV by TNS, Best Mid-Size Car in Initial Quality and Most Appealing Midsize car by JD Power.
Before that in 2005, CNBC Autocar Car of the year 2004 – Honda City, ICICI Overdrive SUV of the year 2004 – Honda CR-V, ICICI Overdrive Car of the year 2004 – Honda City, and Business Standard Motoring Car of the year 2004 – Honda City.
