Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV

Maruti Suzuki is working on new segments in the Indian market. It is expected to be the compact SUV segment. For this, the company is preparing a vehicle based on the XA-Alpha concept and in production form it will look like a scaled down version of the Vitara SUV. The Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV might be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The model will help Maruti Suzuki cater to an emerging class of customers who prefer the SUV appeal while staying compact.

Interior & Exterior

The interior of the Ciaz has been set as the benchmark by Maruti Suzuki for their upcoming cars. Since Maruti’s believes in parts sharing then it is expected that many of the design elements will find their way into this compact SUV. What could be different is the feature list which, obviously for cost reasons, will be scaled down.

There is a large amount of storage spaces for the first and second rows, split folding seats as well as a parcel shelf for the boot. In the model, the third row will get the optional jump seats. It will be best suited for the children or to secure luggage.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV will be a sub 4-metre vehicle and will be bulked up with heavy styling elements. It is expected to a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. As per report, the car will borrow cues from the Suzuki Vitara SUV, pitting it as a sporty and rugged vehicle. The Maruti Suzuki CompactSUV is expected to have a scaled down design but will have a similar fascia, side profile as well as rear end.

Engine and gearbox

The Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV is expected to include the 1.2-litre K-Series mill and the 1.4-litre K-Series engine in the petrol line-up. On the diesel front, it will be powered by a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel to produces the power of 90bhp. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard while a 4-speed AT will be an optional extra for the petrol engines.

Price and competition

The new Maruti Suzuki Compact SUV might accompany the S-Cross in the company’s new premium dealerships, Next, s unless Maruti Suzuki decides to be very competitive with the new car’s prices. If yes, we expect that it will be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. It will primarily rival the Ford EcoSport in the compact SUV segment in India.
